Production We transported the sculpture from Robin’s place to school’s Fabrication Lab, and get our hands dirty. We did the lights, we put on a trial layer of skin on our sculpture and the dress drape which drags on behind the sculpture. AFTER Production, We discussed about the proposal write up to Man Fut Tong Nursing Home (which sahida is in the midst of writing up to them) to volunteer and we thought of creative activities, such as getting them to design on our plastic (that we will cut out in squares) where they can write about what they think Love is to them.
We feel that asking someone of a more mature age, they would have already lived their lives and gone through a lot, with that, they would have a different view of what love really is.
The designed plastic would be used on our prototypes that will be showcased as part of the exhibition.
Exhibition Space Our space would be at the school library. We have already went down to look at it, and we have already planned out to how it would like. pictures taken by zila minutes done by ziqq

So we all met at Robin’s place last Wednesday (20th May) as usual, and our objective of the day was to video! We had our storyboard done a couple of days back, and with that we went to video. We are currently editing and preparing the video for our midpoint. So stay tune, the teasers would be uploaded here after our midpoint! :D

FYP MEETING 3 Meeting with Lydia 14 May 2009
After showing Lydia our completed torso’s exoskeleton, further discussion about pushing our ideas forward were done.
Question raised out of the meeting 1. Listing down our budget 2. Adding dramatic effects to the skirt 3. Where will be the location of our exhibition
Lydia mentioned that we should keep all of our receipts. Upon hearing that, we currently spent a total of $7++. Which was later mentioned to be great things as we are creating a statement by “spending a minimal amount on art”.
Since we are DDI students, we need something to create a sense of interaction between product and users. Lydia then mentioned adding movement to the skirt or dramatic effects on the skirt.
OUR IDEAS: • Adding a puffy skirt using the mechanics of an umbrella to be placed on the lower part of the exoskeleton. This was our initial idea, which was to a Victorian style skirt by using the help of an umbrella to create that effect. Picture 1 will best describe our thoughts.

• Basically the video is about the usage of light in a tangible material. IN this case it’s balloon. Since effects are needed to create a WOW factor, we can play around with the lights such just like the video. The skirt can be lighted up in momentum or different timing for each section.

• Another idea was to create a red carpet on the long skirt. We want the viewer to walk on the red carpet which then leads to our sculpture. The colours will change slowly from white to off-white, pink then to red. Ziqq thought of using different materials such as ironed plastic and cloth for a better transaction. Picture 2 will give you a rough idea of how it is to look like. Picture 2
For our exhibition location, we have yet to decide. But we have some possible ones. • National Library (Bugis) • Jurong Library Open space • A hospital • Bugis Illuma
Robin raised an interesting idea about adding meaning/value to our work after everything is done. Here are some of the ideas. • To sell/auction our works and the money go to a charity organisation • To have an art workshop using the concept of our work which is “Spending a minimal amount on Art”.
We thought of doing it for the children suffering for an illness such as cancer/leukaemia. We wanted to add meaning to their life and to encourage them to express their emotions healthily which is through art. This website are a list of possible organisation we could volunteer.
13 MAY 2009 Objective of the day: to complete the torso, the upper part of the sculpture Objective achieved.

FYP Meeting 2. so what's next?
5th May2009 Meeting Objectives: Looking ahead! Second meeting with Lydia.
So what's next?
Having shared with Lydia our prototype, we were rather hopeful as she told us that it does have a lot of potential.
Questions raised out of the meeting
- What's next after doing the lamp? - How is your space going to be like? - What would the audience take away after exiting our exhibition? - What do we want the audience to feel or engage with our exhibition? - How do we make it engaging? - How do we show that this lamp or rather our whole exhibition would be something of what an art student would do, rather than what an SEG (engineering) student would do? - What can the lamp do, when its not turned on? - How do we further better/improve our whole overall project?
Basically, we looked into the next big stepof this whole project, which is to look at how we are going to work with a space. And we looked into how we want the audience to feel once they step in our exhibition/space.
Lydia raised a point about things that can beautify/compliment the exhibition, like those fireflies buzzing around the exhibition trying to give the feeling of a fantasy world.
Which led to the team questioning how we can try giving a theme towards the exhibition which could further compliment our lamp and space.
After meeting with Lydia was over. The team stayed back and further discussed and shared to what they have to share. Sahida raised the point and recap about how we can use a theme to further compliment our exhibiton as it would help the audience engage with our exhibition. She also raised the idea of making our exhibition more engaging.
But that aside, we looked into what were going to do tomorrow with the first attempt in making the real thing (the lamp). All 100% focus moved to the making of the lamp which is our main priority at the moment. Robin led the way, by asking what were the things we were going to bring and how we can make this work. And we went to Home Fix at Causeway Point to get our wiring for the exoskeleton of our lamp!
Our current progress:
The team is going to do their first attempt on the Lamp on 6th May 2009.
We are going to try video-ing it down
We are also in the midst of doing the storyboard for our video
We are going to look into the video we want to produce by Mid-Point
We are also in the midst of doing the 3D mock up of the exhibition on Google Sketch Up
Also we are all looking out for exhibition or space for us to work on to showcase our work!
As share earlier, check out this light designer, I saw his books at the library and thought it was pretty cool. Ingo Maurer.
